EiMa Maschinenbau GmbH specialises in the construction of custom machines for profile machining. The company from Baden-Württemberg designed a 14.7 m long custom machine with two spindle heads for aluminium profile machining for their customer - AWW Wutöschingen, The PUMA System® from CAMäleon Produktionsautomatisierung GmbH was used for programming software. With this method the machining heads can be used coupled together or process different programs individually on two moving tables.  Even long bed machining is possible. With the acceptance of this machine at the EiMa headquarters in Frickenhausen, Baden-Württemberg, 40 km south-east of Stuttgart, the coupled use of the machining heads is included in test program. Specialities of the custom machine:

For movements on the Y-axis the entire machine table moves, for loading 3m to the machine operator access. Ralf Bammert, responsible at EiMa for commissioning of the custom machine, places the profile and clamps the workpiece. Then the machining program starts.

The left and right head move together up to the fixed coupling mass of one meter, both spindles start running, then the heads lower exactly parallel and drill two holes including the countersinks. Fractions of a second later the duo moves up simultaneously, moves to the next machining position to the right and lower again. Since the right head does the same as the left, the machining is double the speed as with a solo head.

After 40 seconds machining of the 4700 mm long profile is completed. Both head move up and the machine table moves forward. Now the cycle can start over. Read the report as a pdf file here.
